Analysis

Twelve SNC-2022 units with their curriculum theme labels printed on the contents page (PAGE 2), so the ideological quota is legible before a word is read. It opens religious (Unit 1 Seerat-un-Nabi, Unit 2 Eid ul Fitr), fixing A1 at 4. A5 is 5 because the militarism is not incidental: Unit 4 is Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Unit 11 is A Poem by a Soldier, and a third martial text, Rashid Minhas Shaheed, is the model essay used to teach essay structure (PAGE 120). Aspiration is explicit - "I want to be a soldier when I grow up... Pakistan Army is the best army in the world" (PAGE 44); the review asks "Why should we not cry over the death of a soldier?" (PAGE 128). A2 is 4 because the Good Citizen unit is duty only. A7 is 3 on Unit 10, Education is my Right, and the highest female-to-male token ratio (0.75) in the Punjab 6-8 readers. Careful: all ten "enemy" tokens sit in the two martial units, and the essay's "traitor instructor" is never given an ethnicity, so read it as treason framing rather than ethnic othering.

Evidence recorded 5

Three kinds, deliberately styled apart. A quotation is verbatim wording and is only ever taken from English-medium text. An observation describes structure or theme — the only kind permitted for Urdu and Sindhi material, which this project never quotes. An absence is a negative result: a probe was run and returned nothing, which is the weakest claim made anywhere on this site.

Unit 1 Seerat-un-Nabi opens the book — "Hazrat Muhammad … is the last Rasool of Allah. He … was born in Makkah Mukarramah" (english-6-en · PAGE 6); Unit 2 Eid-ul-Fitr (· PAGE 20).

Unit Good Citizen, theme label "Participatory Citizenship" PAGE 2: the citizen "must take care of his neighbours and fellow citizens. He must keep his surroundings clean" PAGE 122; the plot ends with a girl calling the police helpline. One rights question, from a different unit: "Does everyone in Pakistan have equal rights to education?" PAGE 99

Unit 4 Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed: "he embraced martyrdom… awarded him with the Nishan-e-Haider" (english-6-en · PAGE 43). Unit 11 A Poem by a Soldier. A third martial text appears as the model essay for teaching essay structure — Rashid Minhas Shaheed (· PAGE 120). Aspiration is explicit in the unit's dialogue drill: "I want to be a soldier when I grow up… Pakistan Army is the best army in the world" (· PAGE 44). Review question: "Why should we not cry over the death of a soldier?" (· PAGE 128)

quotation othering lens A6 = 3 PDF p. 42 English OCR #e04

Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed: "enemy"/"enemies" ×10 in the file, all in this and the Rashid Minhas essay — "His company destroyed four enemy tanks and held two indian battalions at bay" (p.42); "The enemy launched a counter attack led by air strikes" (p.43). The Rashid Minhas essay adds a defector framing: the instructor sought "to hijack the plane and land on an Indian airbase to join his Indian fellowmen", and is called "his traitor instructor" (p.120). The text does not state the instructor's ethnicity; read it as India-adjacent treason framing, not ethnic othering.

Unit 10 Education is my Right, SNC theme "Gender Equality and Equity"; girls present throughout; highest Punjab 6–8 ratio (english-6-en)

Findings that cite this book 2

Militarismhigh confidence

Punjab is the only board that puts military martyrdom in an English reader, and its class-6 reader carries three separate martial texts. The same Nishan-e-Haider roll appears in its Urdu reader in the same year — the board is redundant across media at age eleven. Punjab's militarism peaks at the start and falls steadily to matriculation, which is the opposite of the usual assumption that this material arrives as pupils get older.

Otheringhigh confidence

Punjab scores highest on hostility toward Hindus and India, and among the lowest on hostility toward Pakistani religious minorities. Its Pakistan Studies 9 and 10 are consecutive volumes of a single course scoring at opposite ends of the scale. The pluralism is real but compartmentalised into the citizenship slot; it never reaches the historical narrative.

A finding states and cites; it does not argue. The argument is in the studies. Where a finding has counter-evidence it is printed above, in the same block, because a finding that hides its counter-evidence is a worse finding rather than a stronger one.

The checksum is of the exact file these findings were computed from, so anyone can prove they hold the same bytes. The retrieval date is when this copy was fetched to the project's own disk, not a formal web-archive capture. Boards and mirrors reprint and reorganise continuously, so a source link may not resolve, and may not serve the same edition if it does. The bibliographic record above — board, class, subject, medium, curriculum, edition, approval reference and page count — is what identifies the book; the link is a convenience. This project does not republish the PDF itself, for the copyright reasons set out in about.

Identifiers and permanent link

This record as data/books/pctb-english-6-en.json · whole dataset

The record ID is an accession number that happens to be readable. It never changes, even if the metadata encoded in it turns out to be wrong — if this book's board, class, subject or medium is corrected, the correction appears in the fields above and the ID stays as it is. That is the only way a link made today still resolves in ten years. The full rule is in the standards.

If you are quoting a passage from the book rather than citing this record, cite the book — the bibliographic details above are what identifies it — and say that you found it here. Two citations, not one.

Challenge this record

If the edition is misidentified, a score does not survive its evidence, the source link is wrong, or a passage is unfairly characterised, that is worth reporting and will be acted on whether or not the correction suits the argument. Corrections are published in the corrections log, never quietly patched. This applies fully to the board that publishes this book: any reply will appear beside the finding it concerns, under the right of reply.
