Overview / Compare / Urdu, class 10

Urdu, class 10

3 boards, 3 books. These books are not of the same curriculum generation — see the vintage note below.

Vintage warning. This cell compares Single National Curriculum (federal) against National Curriculum 2006 against PECTAA 2026. A difference here may reflect the decade the book was written in rather than provincial policy. The defensible reading is "what each board is currently printing", not "what each province believes".

All axes run 1–5, where 1 is the secular/pluralist/open pole. A dot means that lens did not score that book. See the method.

What the difference amounts to

Three boards publish a class-10 Urdu reader and all three score identically on religious saturation, at 3 — meaning a dedicated religious selection plus recurrent reference elsewhere, in a book whose subject is language and literature rather than religion. The volumes are within ten pages of one another: the Federal Board's 174, KP's 170, Punjab's 164. On gender KP and Punjab both score 4; the Federal Board's reader is not scored on that axis. What this cell cannot tell you is the more interesting question, and it is worth being explicit about why. These are the books where a board's own literary tradition would show if it showed anywhere, and the study's separate examination of that question found that Punjab names Punjabi poets 26 times across its corpus but not once in any of its five Urdu literary readers. Establishing that required reading the selection lists, not the scores — and the scores here, being identical, conceal it. All three books are Urdu-medium and were read at theme grade, because Nastaliq OCR is not accurate enough to quote from. The chapter structure and the named selections survive extraction; the prose does not. Any claim in this cell about what a passage says, rather than about which passages are present, would be beyond what the evidence supports, and none is made.
